Philippines Adventure Day 8 Yoga and Coco Frio

Morning Yoga Session

We got up reasonably early so that I could fill up the bike and return it to Ben. Afterwards we made our way over to a yoga place that we had seen the day before. Mum, Christine and I were the only participants. Having said that, it was exactly what we needed, the yoga class consisted of a reasonably rigorous vinyasa followed by a sound bath, this is the first time I have experienced a sound bath. It basically consisted of a range of chimes that were played at various points while you laid on the yoga mat and meditated.

After our yoga session we wandered up to a hardware store that mum had discovered on one of her walks. The hardware store was basically a carbon copy of BnJ Tools, the tool shop that mum and dad own and operate in Nowra NSW. The place was enormous and basically had everything that you could need in the range of hardware, tools and accessories. I was looking for suncure so that I could repair some small dings that I had put in the red board during the accident. Unfortunately suncure was about the only product that these guys didn’t have.

Coco Frio

Once we were done searching through the hardware store, Christine and I wandered over to Coco Frio, this is a place that Scotty had discovered in the first couple of days and had been raving about it ever since. We ordered the deluxe drink, which consisted of fresh chilled coconut water topped with coconut ice cream. Our coconut drink was delicious and refreshing.  We sat just outside the restaurant in the shade, from our position we were looking into an abandoned restaurant that had been left, probably after the typhoon. We marvelled at the way in which the jungle, in such a short span of time, had already begun to reclaim the restaurant. It made it appear as if it had been lost in the jungle for many years, a natural movie set.

Massages at Emerald House

After our Coco Frio experience we met back up with mum and headed over to Emerald house to try these massages that Scotty had also been raving about. We booked a one hour massage each, which cost us the grand total of 2100 php and was well worth it. A deep tissue massage was exactly what I needed after 7 days of back to back surfing and a motorcycle altercation. After our massages, we made our way back to Siargao Residencies for an afternoon siesta.

The Afternoon Surf Session

In the late afternoon we took our boards and made our way down to the beach behind the Harana Surf Resort. Due to the high tide the surf break was easy to access and had a stack of fun little waves to ride. At this break, the first part of the walk out is along flattened reef on which the waves were breaking, beyond this was the urchin infested, thorny reef that we had been snorkelling over when we were doing the island tour. Thankfully you could take off from this point and surf over the top of the nicely flattened reef. Byron and I took the first shift and then I took Christine out and pushed her on to a few green waves. I then collected my board and joined her in catching a few more waves. On the way back to Siargao Residencies, we found mum and Byron chilling in the Restaurant at the Harana Surf Resort. We showered off at the apartment and then came to join them.

Fire Crackers at the Harana Surf Resort

Mum had discovered a dish called fire crackers, it consisted of whole green chilies filled with cheese, coated in spring roll pastry and then deep fried. They are extremely hot and delicious, on the first occasion the chef had taken the seeds out, but now that he knew we could handle the heat, he had taken to leaving them in. We also tried some chicken skewers that were equally delicious. While we were enjoying our food and drink, we were watching the staff set up for a massive party. It turns out that there is a weekly party schedule in Siargao and if you ask then someone will let you know where the next party is going to be. On this night it was at the Harana Surf Resort.

The Beach Party

After our tapas we wandered back to Siargao Residencies to cook spaghetti and pasta sauce for dinner. After dinner we made our way back to the Harana Surf Resort to check out the party. It was absolutely pumping with a DJ, pop up bars, street food and truck loads of people. I think every took took on the island was parked in the street out the front.
