Kirra Beach Shack (this is becoming a tradition)

That was awesome 17 days of surfing, skating, paddle boarding, riding bikes, kicking footballs and catching up with friends and family. We managed to book some time at the Kirra Beach shack for the third year in a row (if we keep this up it will turn into a tradition) and here are some of the highlights.

Each day started with a Yoga Session, a Smoothie and a Surf

The beach shack has a sweet little deck on it that over looks the ocean and a magic view of the rising sun. This was a perfect spot to roll out the Yoga mat and do a few sun salutations in order to stay supple enough to keep up with all the activities that we got up to during the day. Once I was done with my morning Yoga I would make a batch of our Bipy Fit smoothies for everyone, wake up the kids and we would all head over to Currumbin for our morning surf session.

This year Mum and Dad came to adventure with us

This is the first time Mum and Dad have come with us to share in one of our Kirra beach shack adventures. I am sure they will never be the same again and will probably need the remainder of the year to recover. They only stayed for around 7 days out of the 17 as I think they thought this was more than enough, but in that time we took them surfing, skating, bike riding and paddle boarding not to mention the 50 gazillion walks along the beach and over to Coolangatta.

Mum took it upon herself to explore many of the little coffee shops, book shops and surf shops in and around Coolangatta. She even found this really cool little joint called Cafe 28 that had everything in it from a full service restaurant and bar with live music to a fully kitted surf shop and even a barber just in case you needed to neaten yourself up. With the beach only just across the road why would you bother going home? Dad spent his time trying to keep up with Mum and practicing his surf moves.

More surfing at Kirra

We surf at Currumbin because that is our usual break these days, it is great for the kids as they don’t really have to duck dive a great deal to get out behind the breakers and you can get some amazing waves off the point. However when we stay at the Kirra beach shack we are only a stones throw from the would famous Kirra beach break. Byron was keen so a couple of the days that we were there we headed down to Kirra beach to try our luck, and although one of the sessions was a bit of a no go with crystal clear water and swimming pool like conditions (great for swimming, not great for surfing) the other time was awesome and we were well rewarded for our trouble with a few fun waves.

Paige and Byron’s new boards

While we were on holidays we decided that the kids need to do surfing competitions, I mean why not they are already doing athletics, Chinese, guitar, piano, skiing and swimming why not throw a few surfing competitions into the mix. Tiff did a bit of research and found the types of boards they would need to enter competitions and so we were off on a mission to find said boards in reasonable condition. We met some really interesting people on our mission and found some awesome second hand boards that didn’t need too much Suncure to get them back on their feet. Paige and Byron were keen to try them out and thankfully we were given some spectacular conditions on the morning after we picked them up to do just that.
