A Place to study

April 12 2014

While I was waiting for Tiff and Chad to do their Story Bridge climb I thought I would have a look around Brisbane and see if I could find a place to sit and study some Spanish. So I dropped Tiff and Chad at the climbing place, parked at Kangaroo point, took my push bike and begun my adventure.

First I rode past all the fit people climbing the cliffs at Kangaroo Point, over the bridge to fortitude valley and then down Brunswick Street. On Brunswick Street I passed an amazing little Spanish Tapas Bar called Toro Bravo Tapas and Steak that will require some further investigation in the future. I rode all the way down to New Farm Park which was pumping and full of people cooking dinner, kicking soccer balls and generally having a great time.

I rode along the river to the point where the new River Walk is being built. I then rode back to the city, up through Queen Street mall over the Kurilpa Bridge to the State Library and that is where I finally found a place to study.

The State Library closes at 5 pm on a weekend however in the heart of the building is a covered section with tables and chairs that are always available, there is also free Wi Fi and a stack of people were there Skyping friends and family and doing various study activities. There is also a stack of rooms with desks, computers and Wi Fi that is called The Edge, this place is open to around 8 pm most days and 6 pm on Sunday and it was full of people studying, conferencing and having siestas, very cool.

I set up in front of the library book shop on some tables that were there and spent the rest of the time studying Spanish until it was time to go and collect Tiff and Chad from their adventure. As a side note, if you would like to translate (Come to my house at 8 pm. We’ll have a drink and then decide where to go for dinner) into Spanish it is (Ven a mi casa a los ocho. Tomaremos un aperitivo y luego decidiremos adonde ir a cenar.) Good times.
