This was the session that nearly didn’t happen, I had checked the surf cams the night before and found that it was forecasted to be windy and messy and had decided to give it a miss and have a bit of a sleep in. The kids’ pet rats on the other hand had other ideas, they decided to discover how to make a beat using their food bowl as an instrument at around 5:30 in the morning, and so I found myself awoken by the rhythmic tapping of the infernal bowl against the cage, lucky for the rats Tiff got up and took the bowl off them. Seeing as we were awake anyway we decided to check the cams, perfect two to three foot waves and zero wind. Tiff organised the kids, while I chucked the surf boards onto the vehicle.
Sure enough we arrived at Currumbin to be greeted by as close to perfect conditions as you can get, the water was clear the waves were plenty and there were even a few car parks left. We headed out into the waves and I used Paige’s water proof camera that she had received for Easter to film her catching a great little ride. After that Byron and Paige headed up onto the rocks to go exploring and I paddled out a bit further and caught so many awesome waves that I lost count. I was out there for a good hour and half or so before I thought I should probably head back in so we could go and hunt down some breakfast.
We decided we would try our luck with the Vietnamese Bakery in Australia Fair where they make a pretty decent Vietnamese Pork Roll. Now this bakery is awesome they are nothing like an ordinary bakery in that they don’t have your usual breads, buns and cakes instead they make Vietnamese Pork Rolls, a few sausage rolls and pies and a stack of stuff that you would usually get from a Pho’s things like special beef noodles and stuff, awesome. The kids grabbed a pepper steak pie each and they were pretty damn good, while Tiff and I had our Vietnamese Pork Rolls which were spectacular, especially after a massive surf session.
Once we were done we made our way over to Jake, Lana and Hopes place to see how those guys were doing and so we could chill out with Hope for a while. Hope is growing rapidly and had a great time catching up with her cousins.
Now that right there would have been a magic Sunday all by itself but seeing as it was still fairly early we decided to grab a stack of ingredients to make steak and guinness and chicken curry pies on the way home. So now we have a freezer full of steak and guinness and chicken curry pies to help keep us warm through the winter. Hell yes good times and magic Sundays.
